About Solar Export Rates Scotland
We built Scotland’s most detailed solar export calculator so you can see what your roof could earn — before you speak to anyone.
Who we are
Solar Export Rates Scotland is operated by Scottish Energy Efficiency, an independent energy efficiency advisory based in Dundee. We help Scottish homeowners understand what solar panels could earn them — honestly, with real data, no inflated promises.
We do not carry out installations. Survey and installation work is provided by our partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd (SC484353), which holds MCS certification, RECC registration, and TrustMark accreditation (3559930).
What we do
This site gives you personalised solar export income estimates based on PVGIS irradiance data for your postcode area and current Smart Export Guarantee tariff rates. Our battery calculator models grid arbitrage — charging on cheap off-peak electricity and discharging during peak hours — so you can see the real financial picture.
Every figure is sourced and dated. We follow a published editorial policy and correct errors promptly when found.
Why we built this
Too many solar sites quote inflated export rates, promise unrealistic savings, or bury the caveats. We wanted to build something a homeowner could trust — something that would survive scrutiny on a forum thread as well as in a sales conversation.
All our data comes from named, verifiable sources: PVGIS for irradiance, MCS MIS 3002 for yield methodology, published supplier rates for SEG tariffs, and Home Energy Scotland for grant figures.

MCS-certified installation partner
Your installation is carried out by Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd (SC484353), an MCS-certified, RECC-registered installer with TrustMark accreditation (3559930). MCS certification is a government-backed quality standard — and a requirement for SEG payments.
Scottish Energy Efficiency provides independent advice and connects you with certified installers. We do not carry out installations ourselves.
MCS and RECC certifications belong to Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd. Scottish Energy Efficiency is not MCS certified.
